Buyer's Note: Analysis of Common Problems in Natural Gas Generator Operation

Time : 2025-09-11

It's widely known that no matter what type of equipment you purchase, some problems will occur during operation. Some may ask, then, does a large-scale natural gas generator set, which has always prided itself on high efficiency, also experience problems from time to time? To this question, I can assure you: Yes! Problems will inevitably arise. If these problems are not addressed promptly, they will not only affect the stable output of the natural gas generator set but may also increase maintenance costs. Today, let's take a look at common problems and their causes to ensure the reliable operation of the unit later.

First, a natural gas generator set failing to start smoothly can be a major headache. This can be caused by a variety of factors, including problems with the gas source, carbon deposits, and wear in the ignition system; insufficient starting energy due to insufficient battery capacity or cable damage; and faulty speed sensors or wiring issues in the control system.

For these issues, it's recommended to select a unit with a reliable ignition system and a compatible gas source, and ensure that the supplier provides clear startup procedures and emergency plans. Secondly, after the unit is started, power fluctuations, unstable speed, or abnormal vibrations can directly affect power supply quality and even damage connected equipment. These can include improper gas mixing, blockages in the intake and exhaust systems, sudden load changes, aging or stuck components, and other issues. For these issues, it is recommended that you prioritize units equipped with advanced air-fuel ratio control technology and robust speed control systems, ensuring they are designed for easy daily cleaning and maintenance.

Thirdly, unplanned downtime is the most undesirable operational circumstance and can be triggered by a variety of protective alarms. Possible causes include cooling system failures, lubrication system issues, detonation, and reverse power failures. For these issues, it is crucial to select a unit with a comprehensive and sensitive protection and alarm system to minimize significant damage.

Finally, the ultimate mission of a generator set is to provide stable, qualified power. If voltage or frequency instability or grid connection/synchronization failures occur, it is important to consider the brand and technical maturity of the unit's automatic voltage regulator (AVR) and speed control system to ensure they meet the power quality requirements of your load. For buyers, a high-quality natural gas generator set is more than just a price tag; it represents a comprehensive package encompassing performance, reliability, and after-sales support. Common issues with natural gas generator sets often stem from the gas supply, the condition of core components, and auxiliary systems. For users, regular inspections and basic maintenance can effectively reduce malfunctions and ensure that natural gas generator sets continue to deliver clean and efficient power.
